Another busy week here at Little Kings & Queens Nursery, the children have been getting their hands all sparkly in the lead up to Christmas…….
• Outdoor Fun
The Garden is chance for the children to get some fresh air and stretch their little legs and use up some of their surplus energy. Toddlers need to explore the world and develop a range of ways to communicate before they can express their own ideas through arts and design, imaginative play is a great way to do this.
- Healthy Snacks All-round!
Giving your baby healthy snacks is good for them in many ways. Firstly, it will strengthen their fine motor skills, which paves the way for using cutlery later on.Secondly, giving your baby small snacks encourages them to try a wide range of different tastes and textures, meaning there less likely to become fussy. It also introduces them to the art of feeding themselves, rather than her relying on you to feed her. These early forays into independence will flourish as they get older.
- Making Music Shakers
Making homemade music shakers is such a fun activity, the children love getting involved and talking about what materials they are going to use when filling their bottles up; they got so excited afterwards to use them to make some music!
- Christmas Crackers & Glitter
The baby room got into the Christmas spirit this week by decorating homemade Christmas crackers with lots of colourful glitter. Letting the little ones get involved in this activity helps to promote co-ordination and fine motor skills.
- Creative Corner with the Older ones!
The older children got into the Christmas spirit too this week by decorating mini Christmas trees and lots of Christmas arts and crafts. Its definitely a lot more sparkly at Little Kings & Queens nursery this week with all the glitter going around.
- Imaginative & Sensory Play with the older ones!
These types of activities are so important to your childs development, as we’ve mentioned before, they learn through play. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.
When children are engaged in imaginative play they are experimenting with decision making on how to behave and are also practicing their social skills. Children learn from experience: from what happens around them, from what they see, hear, smell, taste and touch. To absorb those experiences and make sense of the world, they need to be engaged in imaginary play.
- Spaghetti Play!
The little ones love this type of play and you don’t have to worry if they put it in their mouth as it’s all completely edible! There is so much learning potential with this activity; Children can pull and tug at the long strands and feel the texture of the spaghetti with their fingers and toes. It’s wonderful as an early fine motor activity for babies and develops sensory awareness. It’s a great way to expose them to a texture that might not be very familiar to them.
Another Week of Baby Yoga
Another week of Baby Yoga, it’s great to see their little faces enjoying the class and really getting involved with the different poses and stretches.
Pre-School Yoga
Weekly yoga with the pre-school children, it’s amazing to see how much they have progressed from their very first class! When a child gets used to the asanas or postures of yoga, they automatically improve their concentration skills; yoga really is so beneficial to the children.
We will have lots more Christmas activities to follow for next week here at Little Kings and Queens Nursery xxx
